Why Selling Your Home in the Winter Is a Great Idea: Top 3 Reasons to List Your Home for Sale Now

Updated: Jun 8, 2022

Contrary to popular belief, there are several advantages of putting your home on the market during the winter season. Here are the top three reasons why it’s a good idea to list your home now instead of waiting until Spring.

1. Serious Buyers–Many buyers who were not able to purchase this past spring and summer are still on the hunt and by now are usually very serious about making a purchase. Not to mention, Buyers wary of losing bidding wars over and over, will now be hoping that they can get an accepted offer because they perceive that there is less competition in the winter.

2. Less Competition –Since your neighbors are waiting until spring and summer to list their homes you which hire means homes you must hire you must homes you for sale, which you muster means which means during the winter you will have far less competition and more advertising opportunities than at any other time of the year. Not only that, but while the buyer may have had thirty homes to compare and choose from in the summer, there may only be ten homes that fit their criteria during the winter months.

3. New Year Job Transfers–Did you know that more corporate moves happen over these next couple of months than at any other time of the year? This means some buyers have to buy a house now and can’t wait until Spring! Also, by putting the home on the market during the winter you may be able to more easily hit your moving goals too!

Justifying not listing in winter because there are fewer daylight hours and bad weather is not as relevant as it was in the past. According to the National Association of Realtors, nine out of ten home buyers search for homes online – at their workplaces, on their smartphones, and from the comfort of their homes after dark. The bottom line is home sellers today who adapt to the new real estate landscape and the modern buyer’s online searching habits, put themselves at a significant advantage over their selling competition–even in winter.
